Sub-Microtesla Magnetic Sensing
NVE's ALT-Series
Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) analog magnetic sensors provide industry-leading
sensitivity. They are also easy amplified for sub-microtesla sensing.
High Sensitivity
The ALT021 has a remarkable sensitivity of 500 mV/V/mT with no amplification,
making it the most sensitive magnetic field sensor of its type. Two popular, easy
ways to get even higher sensitivity are op-amp amplifiers and microprocessors
with preamps.
Op-Amp Amplifier
Expensive instrumentation amplifiers generally aren't necessary. Here's a reference
design for a 5x amplifier with a low-cost op-amp:

The output is centered at half the supply with no field. Large resistors prevent
sensor loading, and optional filter capacitors can be used to limit high-frequency
noise.

You can buy a demo
board with the sensor and amplifier circuitry from our website
or build it yourself. The board provides a 2.5 V/V/mT single-ended linear
output, and can be powered by a 0.9 to seven-volt supply or battery.
Microprocessors with Preamps
Low-cost microprocessors like the ATmega32U4 in an Arduino MICRO can also be used
to amplify ALT-Series sensors (email us
for the code). For example in the video demonstration below, we set the microprocessor’s
internal preamp to 40x. With just the 10-bit ADC, the resolution is a remarkable
0.1 microtesla. And that isn’t just noise, since 0.1 microtesla is the sensor’s
detectivity spec.
This video demonstrates both of these methods of sub-microtesla magnetic sensing:

Good News on Tariffs
Good
news: Unlike those ominous warnings you’ve seen from other companies, NVE
anticipates no impact on part availability from tariffs. Our unique self-sufficiency,
featuring an in-house spintronics fab, internal backend testing, and minimal reliance
on imported raw materials, ensures a stable supply.
With substantial inventories of popular parts, most orders ship directly from
stock. Visit our Online Store to check
stock and place your order. Buy our award-winning sensors and isolators directly
from us with no minimum order or handling fees. Expect shipment within one business
day and flat-rate shipping.
