NEW! Expanded TMR Magnetometer Line

NVE has expanded its industry-leading line of ALT-Series Tunneling Magnetoresistance (TMR) analog magnetometers with the new ALT026-10E. The new version has a 20 mT linear range, which is the widest in the Series.

ALT02x Transfer Function

bipolar transfer function
Bipolar Output
ALT-Series sensors have a unique bipolar output to detect both magnetic field magnitude and polarity; the output is positive for positive magnetic fields and negative for negative magnetic fields.

Specifications
  • High sensitivity (up to 500 mV/V/mT)
  • Large signals (200 mV/V typical full-scale)
  • Flexible 0 to 10 V supply (no minimum)
  • 20 kiloohm device resistance for low power
  • High linearity (1% of full-scale)
  • Ultra-low output temperature coefficient (±0.1%/°C)
ALT02x Equivalent Circuit

analog output
  • Up to 300 kHz bandwidth
  • –40 to 125 °C operating range
  • 2.5 x 2.5 mm DFN6 package

Applications
  • Proximity sensing
  • Magnetic pickups
  • Motion, speed, and position control
  • Ferromagnetic material detection
  • Flow sensing
  • Geomagnetic navigation
  • Noncontact current sensing
  • Wearables
  • Mechatronics and robotics

ALT021-10E-EVB01 Evaluation Boards
The 0.8 x 0.4 inch (21 x 10 mm) breakout boards have pre-soldered sensors, footprints for standard 0.1" (2.54 mm) headers, and common, 1 mm pitch card-edge connectors.

Magnetometers as Magnetic Switches
A simple comparator circuit can be used with a magnetometer
to create a magnetic switch. Since the sensor has a bipolar magnetic response, the comparator only switches with a large enough field of the correct polarity:

ALT025 Comparator With Hysteresis
The R1/R2 ratio sets the threshold, and positive feedback from R2b adds hysteresis. The relatively large resistors prevent loading the bridge, and the matching preserves the sensor bridge’s inherent cancelation of temperature and power supply variations.
