NVE Isolated
CAN Transceivers Beat NXP on Size, Transient Immunity, EMI, and More
NXP might claim to have an isolated transceiver as good as the NVE IL41050TA,
but dont be fooled. Key differences are summarized below:

Better Transient Immunity
NVEs minimum transient immunity of 30 kV/µs is 50% better than
NXP for more reliable operation in harsh environments.
Better EMC Footprint
With no carriers or clocks, NVE isolators have orders of magnitude lower emissions.
NXP uses RF coupling, i.e., little radio transmitters producing modulated
RF carrier emissions. In addition to low emissions, NVEs unique spintronic
technology has unsurpassed EMI immunity.
Barrier a Thousand Times Better
A unique ceramic/polymer barrier gives NVE a isolation resistance of 1014
ohms, 1000 times better than NXP. NVEs better barrier means a remarkable
44000 year life. NXP uses an oxide barrier, which will be subject to diffusion
and premature failure, and the isolation resistance decreases sharply with temperature.
NXP doesnt even specify a barrier life, and doesnt have much experience
with isolation. NVE introduced the first non-optical isolators in 2000, and has
been a leader ever since.
Better Creepage
The unique NVE True 8 wide-body package guarantees 8 mm minimum creepage
as defined under IEC 60601 rules, which is required for 250 working volts. Whatever
isolation voltage they claim, NXP admitts it does not meet the standard after
subtracting a conductive part as required, and therefore it does not meet IEC
requirements for 250 working volts.
Smaller
In addition to a True 8 wide-body, NVE offers a narrow-body version for half
the PCA footprint.
Award-winning IsoLoop Isolators. The first. The still the best.
