NVE Introduces Isolated CAN Transceiver
IsoLoop IL41050T features small packages and best-in-class loop delay
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.March 2, 2010NVE Corporation today announced
the introduction of the IsoLoop® IL41050T isolated Controller Area Network
(CAN) transceiver.
Transceiver and isolation functions are integrated in a single device with improved
performance and reduced chip count compared to discrete transceivers and traditional
optocouplers. The IL41050T fully complies with the ISO 11898 CAN standard and
de facto industry standards, and provides an isolated interface to three volt
or five volt microcontrollers.
Patented spintronic giant magnetoresistance technology provides best-in-class
loop delay of 180 nanoseconds. This high speed maximizes data rate over any given
bus length.
Advanced features facilitate reliable bus operation. Unpowered nodes do not disturb
the bus, and a unique non-volatile programmable power-up feature prevents unstable
nodes. The devices also have a hardware-selectable silent mode that disables the
transmitter.
Designed for harsh CAN and DeviceNet environments, IL41050T transceivers have
a -55 to +125 degree Celsius operating range, transmit data dominant time-out,
bus pin transient protection, thermal shutdown protection, short-circuit protection,
2,500 volt isolation, and typical transient immunity of 30 kilovolts per microsecond.
Unique edge-triggered inputs improve noise performance. The parts are UL 1577
and IEC 61010-2001 approved. Unlike optocouplers or other isolation technologies,
IsoLoop isolators have indefinite life at high voltage.
The IL41050T is available now in a JEDEC-standard, RoHS-compliant, 0.3 inch wide-body
package. A 16-pin, 0.15-inch narrow-body, 1.8 millimeter clearance low-profile
SOIC version will be available in the second quarter of 2010. Pricing is $2.45
for 1,000 pieces. A data
sheet and more information are available at www.IsoLoop.com or www.nve.com.
NVE's award-winning IL400/IL3000 line of isolated transceivers is the broadest
in the industry. The line includes RS-422, RS-485, and PROFIBUS protocols; speeds
up to 40 megabits per second; digital and passive input versions; and unique 0.15-inch
narrow-body packages.
NVE is a leader in the practical commercialization of spintronics, a nanotechnology
that relies on electron spin rather than electron charge to acquire, store and
transmit information. The company manufactures high-performance spintronic products
including sensors and couplers that are used to acquire and transmit data. NVE
has also licensed its spintronic magnetoresistive random access memory technology,
commonly known as MRAM.
