NVE Ships Industry's Fastest
Isolated RS-485 Transceiver
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.--February 27, 2001--NVE Corporation (OTCBB:NVEC)
today announced it has begun shipping its IL485 IsoLoop® isolated
RS-485 transceiver. With a guaranteed data rate of 35 megabaud,
the IL485 transceiver integrated circuit is more than 100 times
faster than competitive RS-485 interface devices, such as those
sold by Maxim Integrated Products and Linear Technology Corporation.
These competitive devices have maximum data rates of 0.25 megabaud.
RS-485 is a widely-used industry-standard data transfer protocol
for industrial and commercial networks.
Like all of NVE's IsoLoop products, the IL485 transceiver is based
on NVE's proprietary giant magnetoresistive (GMR) technology. A
monolithic galvanic isolation barrier gives the IL485 a common mode
voltage range of plus-or-minus 2,500 volts, and makes it immune
to ground and signal differentials that would interrupt data transmissions
or even destroy non-isolated RS-485 devices. This makes the IL485
ideal for industrial applications and large local area networks.
"The IL485 is an ultra-high-speed, low-cost alternative to
optically or capacitively-isolated transceivers," says John
Myers, vice president of NVE's Isolator Business Group. "Its
high speed could revolutionize the performance of industrial and
commercial networks."
The IL485 is the first isolated RS-485 interface available in a
standard 16-pin SOIC package, which meets ANSI standards, EIA/TIA-422-B,
and RS-485. It has an extraordinarily wide operational temperature
range of -40 to +80 degrees Celsius. Prices start at $5.20 per unit
in quantities of 1,000 or more. Detailed product data sheets on
the IL485, other IsoLoop devices, and NVE's GMR technology are available
at www.isoloop.com.
NVE is a world leader in supplying ultra high-speed isolator and
sensor components based on Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) for use
in a wide range of communications, industrial, and military applications.
NVE is also widely recognized as a leading developer of nonvolatile
Magnetic Random Access Memory (MRAM) technology.
